PD patients assist with doctor training and earn.
I am an emergency medicine specialist based in south-east London.
My organisation (www.mcemcourses.org) runs a number of training courses for junior doctors. One important course is a basic ultrasound course, which trains junior doctors to recognise internal bleeding in injured patients.
We run this course three times a year, and have two courses planned on consecutive days later in July, 20th and 21st.
Patients on peritoneal dialysis have fluid within the tummy, which just looks exactly the same way that blood would look on ultrasound. So peritoneal dialysis patients are ideal as a way of showing junior doctors what internal bleeding would actually look like.
We are looking for two patients each day if possible. They would only need to be with us for about two hours in the afternoon. We will provide transport each way, (lunch if appropriate), and an honorarium of £50 each per day.
The courses are held at a conference centre on Bromley Common not far from Bromley in South-East London.
