KDIGO Clinical Guidelines for Kidney Disease iPad app

(Brussels, Belgium) - - - Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes is proud to announce the global adoption of its newly released KDIGO Clinical Guidelines for Kidney Disease iPad app.  The application is supported by an educational grant from Shire International GmbH, and is available to iPad users free-of-charge through the Apple App Store.

KDIGO Co-chair, Dr. David Wheeler of University College, London, said, “This tool is readily available to physicians in countries with all levels of economic development, medical sophistication and treatment resources.  Now clinicians anywhere can easily access this critical information.”

The KDIGO Guideline app was unveiled at the American Society of Nephrology’s “Kidney Week” meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, USA during the first week of November 2013.  The KDIGO app has since been downloaded more than 2,000 times, primarily in the United States, the Philippines, and Mexico.

KDIGO’s Co-chair, Dr. Bertram Kasiske of the University of Minnesota, said, “We have always published and disseminated hundreds of written pages of recommendations.  Now they are in the hands and on the desks of our colleagues everywhere in the world.  Providing KDIGO’s work to everyone electronically will greatly enhance our global ability to fulfill our mission of improving outcomes for patients.”

Future phases of the KDIGO Clinical Guideline app will include availability on the iPhone and Android platforms.  KDIGO also plans to develop the app into a tool that can apply its science-based recommendations to specific patient-centered treatment plans.
